How It Works

Kitchen plumbing cost depends on how many water-using appliances you include and whether supply/drain lines already exist. A pot filler requires running a cold water line through the wall to the stove area.

The Formula

Total = Rough-In (new pipe runs) + Finish (connections, fixtures)
Each appliance adds both rough-in and finish costs

Variables

  • Rough-in — Piping behind walls and under floors to bring water/drain to location
  • Finish — Connecting appliances and fixtures to existing rough-in

Worked Example

Standard sink, new dishwasher, ice maker line, disposal: $300 + $250 + $200 + $100 rough-in = $850. $200 + $150 + $100 + $175 finish = $625. Total: $1,475.

Practical Tips

  • Pot fillers are expensive because they require a dedicated wall-mounted supply line
  • Farmhouse sinks may need cabinet modifications — budget extra for carpentry
  • A prep sink in an island requires under-slab or overhead drain routing
  • Pro-grade disposals (3/4+ HP) handle more waste and last longer
